What the heck is RSS anyways?

Over the last few years you may have noticed a lot of little buttons and widgets appearing on your favorite sites and blogs. Little orange buttons, ‘counters’ with how many ‘readers a blog has, links called RSS, XML, ATOM and many more.

They come in all shapes and sizes. Here are a few you might have seen:



There are plenty more - but any time you see any of these buttons or anything like them it means that the site you are viewing almost certainly has a feed that you can subscribe to. In most cases it’s as simple as either copying and pasting the link associated with the button into your RSS Reader or clicking the button and following the instructions to subscribe using the feed reader of your choice.

I use Google Reader and it works very much like email.  You choose what feeds you would like to subscribe to and Google Reader takes care of the rest. You can organize your subscriptions into folders and even star the ones you want to save.

Rock Band Timelapse

I had some people over to play Rock Band this Saturday and created a multi-camera time-lapse video of it by using the instructions I found at Lifehacker.com.  Check it out here.

I used Gawker using the iSight and my Xbox 360 Live Vision camera. I’m pretty happy with the results. I had it set to take a snapshot every 10 seconds for about 9 hours.  Next time I might set it to take more pictures per second. Overall I think people thought Rock Band was a blast.

Indiana Jones Animation

Messing around in After Effects. I wanted to create an Indiana Jones style map. After getting the animation of the plane right where I wanted it. I added the fold in the map, lighting and clouds.

Red Sox Parade 2007

The Red Sox did it again. One more win for the boys of Boston. As luck would have it the parade route went right past my workplace. Above is a video of the madness.
